Overview of the Personal Server
The single user Point Patrol Personal Server is almost identical to the online Point Patrol except that it runs on your local PC/server and does not require you to log in.
The multi user Point Patrol Person Server is almost identical to the online Point Patrol except that it runs on your local PC/server and the home page has been slightly modified. If you purchase the multi user version, upon request I will customize your home page for your school or institution (example).
Both, the online and personal server data bases, are compatible and can be imported and exported to and from the other as long as you have not changed the structure of any database on the personal server on your local PC/server
The Personal Server is set up to run on a web server installed on your local PC. If you have Windows XP Pro, XP Media Center, 2000 or NT 4.0, you have a built in web server, IIS, that you just have to enable. You can download PHP and MySQL for free. If you don't have a built in web server, there are several other web servers you can download and use for free. I recommend the Abyss Web Server for personal use. It is small, easy to install and supports Windows ME, NT, 2000, XP, and 2003. You can also use Apache which can be downloaded for free as well.
The Personal Server Installation Guide will walk you through installing IIS, Abyss, Apache, php, MySQL, and the Point Patrol Personal Server. By following the guide, the web server, php, MySQL and Point Patrol can be installed and running on an XP Pro PC in about than 30 minutes. (It should be similar for other Windows OSs.)
Before you purchase the Personal Server, feel free to download and install the Personal Server Test application to make sure your system is properly setup to run the Personal Server. The Personal Server Test is a slimmed down version of the Personal Server and you only have the ability to view points, actions and rewards.
All source files will be released with the application with an understanding that:
- You will not sale or give away the Point Patrol Personal Server software.
- The Point patrol Personal Server software will be installed on one server only.
- The Point patrol Personal Server software will be installed on a local server only.
- You can modify the code as much as you like, however, I will not support any code that has been modified.
- I do not support 3rd party software such as PHP and MySQL.
The Personal Server may be purchased through PayPal which accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, bank transfers, and PayPal payments securely, and hassle-free. You may pay either with a PayPal account or by just entering a credit card number.
Once your PayPal transaction has been completed, your download will automatically begin. You can also download the Personal Server at any time from the Persona Server > Download menu. You will be required to enter your email address that you entered at the time of purchase and your PayPal transaction id from your receipt.
